About the 3rd Cavalry Regiment
The 3rd Cavalry was formed in 1846 as the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen. It earned its nickname during the Mexican-American War, when General Winfield Scott called the troopers “Brave Rifles” after the Battle of Chapultepec in 1847. Troopers have carried that motto through every major American conflict since.
How it’s worn
- Left shoulder: your current unit of assignment
- Right shoulder: a former wartime service patch (combat patch) for soldiers who deployed with the regiment
This patch is a good fit for active troopers and veterans of the regiment. It also works for a shadow box or as a gift for someone who served with the Brave Rifles.
This attaches using hook and loop fasteners. (See video)
