Vintage Golden Dusk Gold Cream and Brown Stepped Woven Basket
Here is a vintage find for anyone who loves Panama's rainforest: this Golden Dusk basket in gold, cream and brown stepped lines, woven by hand from chunga palm. Its gold lower half meets a cream top, both crossed by dark brown stepped lines. It makes a thoughtful gift for collectors of handmade art and anyone who loves the rainforest. Keep small treasures inside, or let it stand on a shelf or table as a piece of art.
From Jan at MolaMagic: We have been buying Wounaan and Emberá baskets since 1991, and this one comes from that early time. It has been kept out of the light to protect its colors. It is woven from chunga palm with natural dyes, and the designs are fascinating.
Baskets like this one are woven by Wounaan and Emberá women in the Darién rainforest of Panama, a skill handed down from mothers and grandmothers to daughters. Fine strands of chunga palm, colored with natural dyes from rainforest plants and earth, are coiled tightly around a core of naguala fiber, stitch by stitch, from the center of the base up to the rim. Every basket is woven entirely by hand, so each one is truly one of a kind.
MolaMagic was founded by Janet Marie Brockman with a simple but powerful mission: to help indigenous artisans in Panama share their art with the world. All profits go right back into the artisan community, supporting education, medical care, land, tools, and daily needs. Buying a MolaMagic basket means you are part of that story too.
