Vintage Lazy Scroll Cream and Brown Spiral Woven Basket

Add a vintage piece of Panama's weaving tradition to your home with this Lazy Scroll basket in cream and brown spiral scrolls, hand woven from chunga palm. Its cream body carries dark brown hooked scrolls that curl around the sides beneath a softly rolled rim. It makes a thoughtful gift for collectors of handmade art and anyone who loves the rainforest. Keep small treasures inside, or let it stand on a shelf or table as a piece of art.

From Jan at MolaMagic: This is one of our vintage baskets, bought in Panama long ago. Baskets like this are woven entirely by hand by Wounaan and Emberá artisans of the Darién region, from palm fiber colored with natural dyes.

Baskets like this one are woven by Wounaan and Emberá women in the Darién rainforest of Panama, a skill handed down from mothers and grandmothers to daughters. Fine strands of chunga palm, colored with natural dyes from rainforest plants and earth, are coiled tightly around a core of naguala fiber, stitch by stitch, from the center of the base up to the rim. Every basket is woven entirely by hand, so each one is truly one of a kind.

MolaMagic was founded by Janet Marie Brockman with a simple but powerful mission: to help indigenous artisans in Panama share their art with the world. All profits go right back into the artisan community, supporting education, medical care, land, tools, and daily needs. Buying a MolaMagic basket means you are part of that story too.
